Miguel Rodriguesis a Portuguese contemporary artist whose work draws inspiration from the opulence and grandeur of the Baroque period, named Hyper Baroque by the artist: a mix from Hyper reality and Baroque. By reimagining this flamboyant style through a modern lens, he is creating Hyperbaroque pieces, blending historical motifs with contemporary sensibilities. His artworks are theatrical in nature, reflecting on the hyper-realities of modern society, consumerism, and propaganda. Gold, a recurring element in his work, symbolizes luxury and power, inviting viewers into a world of fantasy and whimsy through its opulent allure.
Miguel studied Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He quickly gained recognition and began exhibiting his work throughout Portugal and internationally, with shows in Turkey, Dubai, London, the Netherlands and Belgium. He has collaborated with renowned European cultural institutions, including the Catherine Palace in St. Petersburg, the Sakıp Sabancı Museum in Istanbul, and the Mayer van den Bergh Museum in Antwerp. Currently based in Lisbon, Miguel continues to explore and expand the boundaries of his works, bridging past and present in his powerful creations.
